Dairy Blend
Food · Fat & Oil · Food, Typed Supps
Butter softened with vegetable oil — the two versions on the shelf differ only in salt.
Stage by stage
- Intake (Melts on contact): Added liquid oil breaks up butter's fat crystal network, so it spreads and melts at fridge temperature.
- Small intestine (Bile emulsification): Lipase and bile salts break the fat into absorbable droplets, exactly as they do with butter.
- Bloodstream (Chylomicron transport): Fatty acids are repackaged with fat-soluble vitamins A, D and E and enter circulation.
- Cardiovascular (Lipid and sodium load): Saturated fat sits below butter's but well above a polyunsaturated spread; the two versions differ by 200mg sodium per 100g.
Time to effect
- Hours: Fat digestion and chylomicron appearance peak roughly 3 to 5 hours after eating.

Food vs. supplement
Not a supplement comparison. The vitamin A and D are added during manufacture, and neither is a reason to eat a spread.
Kitchen tip
It contains water and added oil, so it browns and splits differently from butter and is unreliable for browned butter or laminated pastry. In baking, the reduced-salt version performs identically to the standard one.
Common myth
“A butter blend is the heart-healthy middle ground between butter and margarine.” In reality: Only slightly. Replacing about a fifth of the milk fat with vegetable oil lowers saturated fat from roughly 51g to 34g per 100g, but the blend stays much closer to butter than to a polyunsaturated spread, and the trans fat here is higher than in most modern spreads.
