High-Fibre White Bread
Food · Grain · Food, Typed Supps
Twice the fibre of white bread, and it is not the same fibre wholemeal gives you.
Stage by stage
- White texture (Mouth): Soft like white bread, which is the entire reason the product exists.
- Added fibre (Colon): 6.4 g per 100 g, isolated rather than arriving inside intact bran.
- Minerals unchanged (Systemic): Magnesium and zinc track white bread — those live in the germ and bran.
- Same mandate (The flour): Folate, iodine and thiamin fortification is identical to white bread.
Timing
Nothing to time. Bowel effects appear within days, as with any increase in fibre.
Time to effect
- Days: Stool bulk and regularity respond quickly.
- —: The whole grain metabolic literature does not apply to added isolated fibre.
Allergens
Contains: Gluten. May contain: Eggs, Milk, Sesame, Soya. Derived from what this food is, not from a product label.
Eating patterns

Satiety
149 on the satiety index, where white bread is 100 — high. Modelled from the Holt et al. (1995) measurements.
Environmental footprint
1.6 kg CO2e and 648 litres of freshwater per kg, matched to "Wheat & rye" in Poore & Nemecek (2018), Science 360.
Cost band
Cheap — roughly £3 per kg, as a band midpoint rather than a price.

Food vs. supplement
This is the bread equivalent of a fibre supplement folded into the loaf: the quantity is matched and the matrix is not, which is why whole grain research does not transfer to it.
Kitchen tip
This is the bread for someone who will not eat wholemeal. If wholemeal is acceptable, it is still the better choice.
Common myth
“It has as much fibre as wholemeal, so it’s just as good.” In reality: On fibre alone it is close — 6.4 g against 6.9 g per 100 g. But wholemeal’s magnesium, zinc and phytochemicals come from the germ and bran, and this bread has neither: those minerals track white bread. It is a genuinely useful product for someone who refuses wholemeal on texture, and it is not a substitute for it.
